Sean Hershey LCSW Mindbody Medicine for Chronic Pain

“My stomach hurts.”

Let’s acknowledge the facts: IBS absolutely sucks.

In my own journey, IBS has been my worst symptom imperative by far.

I have tremendous empathy for people who suffer from this awful, painful, embarrassing, socially stigmatized, lonely, and completely miserable condition.

  • The pain

  • The gas

  • The bloating

  • The farting

  • The constipation

  • The diarrhea

  • The shame

  • The quiet desperation

  • The stomach that’s always, always sticking out

  • The food avoidance

  • The activity avoidance

  • The constant discomfort

  • The internal mental map you keep—of every bathroom, in every location

  • The fear

  • The loneliness

  • The hopelessness…

I know you know. I’m just saying, I know too.

And—I can tell you with complete confidence—I do NOT have chronic IBS anymore.

Can you believe it? My twenty-something self would be… beyond rejoicing if he could read this. Truly, it feels like a miracle.

And, I want that for you too.

So I’m telling you, psychological and emotional modalities work.

The path to healing IBS is the same as the path to healing back pain. It’s the same basic process.

And yet, sometimes it’s nice to have the empathy, the knowledge, and the sense of hope that comes from working with someone who truly sees you, understands your symptoms, and knows that healing is 100% possible.

And I’m still part of the sensitive stomach club.

Definitely.

Emotions still land in my gut.

I still have moments.

You know, the moments where I’m like… “get me out of here… and get me into a bathroom.”

You understand.

But now, I know those are just emotions. And, because of mindbody work, those are only moments. Nothing chronic, nothing constant, nothing hopeless. Just moments. And, in those moments, I know my body’s telling me something.

Then—when I listen—my stomach calms down. Because that’s how this works.

If you’re suffering from chronic IBS, let me help you.

Let me show you, there is a way out.

The solution is emotional. The solution is psychological.

Let’s tune in to you. Let’s get to know what your body’s telling you. Let’s learn to listen, and let’s calm your stomach down.

Because, truly, you can live without chronic IBS.

Let’s make that your reality.
